As the school year starts ramping up, you might feel stressed about your course load. This definitely takes a toll on your mental health. Bad mental health can lead to a variety of problems, such as anxiety, depression, stress, and strained relationships. Thankfully, there are plenty of mental health resources here at San Gabriel High School, such as:
- Group counseling
Group counseling is a resource that is offered by the Office of Counseling. It provides students with a safe environment to talk about school, stress, and mental health. Counselors are trained to help students in all areas of their life and provide advice & support alongside student peers.
- Peer counseling
Peer counseling is a 1-on-1 resource provided by students, for students. Students are able to schedule sessions with their peers, who have been trained in counseling and are able to offer wise guidance.
- Conflict Mediation
Conflict Mediation helps students mediate their conflicts. If a student believes that they have a conflict with another, they can schedule a meeting with a peer mediator who can help them solve their conflicts peacefully and offer solutions or next steps.
- Talk to school psychologists
SGHS has plenty of school psychologists who are available at students’ disposal to help them with any mental health concerns. These mental health counselors are licensed and are able to provide students with the help they need with any problems that they may have. You are able to go to school psychologists during passing periods or ME Time. School psychologists can also refer you if you need therapy, a 504 Accommodation Plan, or any other mental health support.
- Calming room
The counselors of SGHS created a virtual calming room resource for students, where students can relax during their free time and find healthy ways to cope with anxiety and stress. The website contains several activities, including but not limited to puzzles, journaling, and calming sounds for students to reflect and have fun.
All of these resources are available at SGHS for all students. It is important to reach out and find guidance when in need.
