The 2026 Winter Olympics primarily take place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy. The event started on Feb. 6, 2026, and ends on Feb. 22, 2026. It is the USA’s 25th appearance in the Winter Olympics. Team USA is one of the 93 countries participating in the 2026 Winter Olympics. There are a total of 232 athletes from 32 states that represent Team USA. According to Team USA’s website, this year’s team is the largest ever Winter U.S. Olympic team. There is a wide age range in this team, from freeskier Abby Winterberger at 15 years old to curler Rich Ruohonen at 54 years old. The US athletes are competing in the 16 Olympic disciplines, including figure skating, ice hockey, snowboarding, and more.
Team USA has 33 medals, with twelve in gold, twelve in silver, and nine in bronze. The country has received twelve gold medals in alpine skiing, figure skating, freestyle skating, speed skating, bobsleigh, and ice hockey. Breezy Johnson won gold for alpine skiing in Women’s downhill. Evan Bates, Madison Chock, Amber Glenn, Ellie Kam, Alysa Liu, Ilia Malinin, and Daniel O’Shea won gold in the Team Event for figure skating. Liu won her second gold medal in figure skating for Women’s singles; she is the first American woman to win gold for figure skating at the Olympics in over 20 years. Elizabeth Lemley won gold in Women’s moguls for freestyle skiing. Jordan Stolz has won two of those gold medals in the Men’s 1000 m and Men’s 500 m for speed skating. Elana Meyers Taylor won gold for bobsleigh in Women’s monobob. Mikaela Shiffrin won gold for alpine skiing in Women’s slalom. The United States women’s national ice hockey team won gold for ice hockey in the Women’s tournament. The United States men’s national ice hockey team also won gold for ice hockey in the Men’s tournament. Alex Ferreira won gold for freestyle skiing in the Men’s halfpipe. Connor Curran, Kaila Kuhn, and Christopher Lillis won gold for freestyle skiing in the Mixed team aerials.
The Opening Ceremony took place on Feb. 6, 2026, in Milan, Italy. The athletes were seen wearing their custom-designed uniforms from Ralph Lauren. The flag bearers were athletes Frank Del Duca and Erin Jackson. The Closing Ceremony was held at the Verona Olympic Arena in Italy on Feb. 22, 2026.
