Bayou rides, glowing lanterns, and a swamp full of school spirit! This year’s homecoming at San Gabriel High is anything but ordinary. As we celebrate 70 years of matador pride, our Associated Student Body has been working hard to bring the magic of the bayou to life, right in the arena of our campus. But while students get ready to dress up and dance the night away, what students don’t always see is the chaos, creativity, and countless hours going on behind the scenes. Between the last minute schedule changes, rally prep, and football game posters, this year’s homecoming has been a whirlwind, and ASB has been at the center of it all, determined to make the 70th anniversary one to remember. From large character cutouts to hand-painted centerpieces, ASB has been working to bring the bayou to campus. The dance will feature decorations by the magical movie theme.
“Since it’s the 70th anniversary of San Gabriel High School, Ms. Castro has high expectations for our homecoming this year so our ASB is working extra hard,” Maylin Siwy, our ASB president, states.
None of this would be possible without the help of our ASB board, general ASB members, ASB advisor, and Ms. Castro! Whether it was helping decorate, bringing new ideas for this year, or managing roles, it’s been a true team effort. As homecoming approaches, ASB is still hard at work, creating characters, centerpieces, finalizing playlists, and making sure everything goes right. It’s a lot of pressure, but our ASB is proud of what they’ve pulled off. Because at the end of the day, homecoming isn’t just about a theme or a dance, it’s about bringing the school together. And this year, “Down by the Bayou” will do just that.
