Recently, McDonald’s has brought a new burger to their menu: The Big Arch. In a viral video, the Big Arch burger was revealed by the McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski which featured him taste testing it. The introduction video has faced mockery, mainly for his awkward bite and his unusual description of the burger. Social media users make fun of his tiny bite and the CEO’s description of the burger as a “delicious product,” believing that he actually dislikes the burger.
The McDonald’s CEO is not the only one to give his products taste tests. This has caused other brands to make parodies, mocking Kempczinski and his taste test, showing authentic enjoyment of their menu items. CEOs of fast food chains, such as Burger King and A&W have tried their own foods. Unlike the McDonalds CEO, they received positive feedback on their taste tests, getting praise for their big bites and real reactions.
Kempczinski’s viral, awkward video is not his first taste test. On the McDonald’s official social media pages, there are many taste tests for previous products and videos featuring Kempczinski. The McCrispy strips and the Thailand exclusive Samurai McSpicy were previous items taste tested. The previous videos show users assuming he dislikes McDonald’s. The virality of those videos bring engagement and attention to McDonald’s, making online discussion a rather harmless, beneficial, and funny trend.
