Does Donald Trump truly deserve such an award? Trump has just announced his desire to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Many of the Nobel Peace Prize committee members have disagreed, but Trump believes he still deserves it.
Trump has been nominated numerous times for the previous Nobel Peace prizes, but he has complained several times about not being awarded the prize. He refers to previous former presidents like Barack Obama, who have been awarded this prize, but he hasn’t. “No, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do… but the people know, and that’s all that matters to me,” Trump said. Although the Nobel Peace Committee doesn’t publicly confirm nominees, Trump has been informed that he has several nominations this year. Countries like Israel and Cambodia have stated their nominations for Trump. Recently, the Washington Post has reported that three fifth of its prize committee have publicly criticized Trump about his chances of gaining their support.
Upon hearing these denials, Trump went on to The Daily Caller to explain why he deserved such a prize. He stated he mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, which could have been a potential nuclear war. President Trump has made remarks to prove his point”I can say this, nobody’s done in history what I’ve done”, Trump said. “I stopped seven wars, and they were, they’re big ones too, India-Pakistan. They were shooting down planes, seven planes landed on their rear end…[T]hat was a potential nuclear war, and there’s great hatred, and I got him on the phone, and I worked it out.”
Trump has repeated his claims on the conflicts with India and Pakistan to the point that he frustrated the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi. Trump has boasted about de-escalating the situation and how Pakistan nominated Trump for the prize, and implies that India should do so too. Modi rejects the claim, saying the ceasefire was agreed by Pakistan and India, not Trump.
Although Trump wasn’t awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, he received other awards unrelated to the Nobel Peace Prize, created by people like FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who established the first Annual Peace Prize and awarded it to President Trump. Gianni stated to Trump that “Nov. 5 would recognize the enormous efforts of those individuals who unite people, bringing hope for the future generations”.
Trump has many supporters, but the same goes for the people who disagree. Who knows what’s been done for an award at this point? Trump has referred to the same reasoning each time, but I don’t even know if that’s true anymore, as even the Prime Minister disagrees with Trump. What truly matters is what the Nobel Peace Committee decides, which he isn’t appeasing right now.
