Spanish motorcycle racer Marc Márquez finally won his seventh MotoGP title and ninth World Championship title overall on Sept. 28, 2025. His championships include one 125cc World Championship, one Moto2 World Championship, and seven MotoGP World Championships. His last championship was earned in 2019, making it the longest wait a rider has ever had between premier class titles. His name is often mentioned alongside the best motorcycle racers like Valentino Rossi and Giacomo Agostini. The challenges that Márquez faced make this win so special.
Márquez experienced a huge crash in 2020 at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, Spain. He suffered from a fractured right humerus bone and had to undergo four surgeries. It was the first race of that season, and Márquez was not able to participate in the remaining 30 races. Many thought his racing career was over, but he persisted and raced in the 2021 MotoGP season. Márquez suffered from diplopia (double vision) at the end of the 2021 season and the beginning of the 2022 season. He also withdrew from several races due to other injuries and surgery.
Márquez raced for the Repsol Honda Team for 11 years until he moved to Gresini Racing MotoGP for the 2024 season, where he finished third in the championship. He then moved to the Ducati Lenovo Team for the 2025 season. After racking up a 191-point lead against Alex Márquez, who is second in the championship, he would win the title if he does not concede more than six points to his brother. Marc Márquez placed second at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sept. 28 and secured himself as the 2025 MotoGP World Champion.
His crashes and challenges had a significant impact on his mental and physical well-being. Through rehabilitation and perseverance, Márquez pushed himself when times were tough and kept on racing. It took him 2,184 days to get back to the top. Winning the 2025 MotoGP World Championship title is extremely deserved and a testament to Márquez’s unrelenting spirit to succeed. He has made one of the greatest comebacks in the history of motorcycle racing.
