Promposals, a creative and often public way of asking someone to go to prom, usually involving a sign, gifts, or a themed surprise, might look effortless on social media, but behind the scenes there’s usually a lot of planning involved. Senior Matthew Briones shared that his inspiration came from TikTok, where similar promposal ideas helped him create his own version with a personal twist. While most students only get to see the final poster, flowers, and big reveal, there’s usually a lot more planning happening behind the scenes. Matthew gave a look into what it took to pull off his promposal and make his final one memorable.
Unlike first-time planners who might stress over every detail, Matthew felt pretty confident throughout the process. “I wasn’t nervous planning everything because this was my second time doing a promposal,” he explained. Even with prior experience, Matthew didn’t do it alone. He asked two of his friends to help him bring everything together and make sure everything went smoothly. From start to finish, the preparation took about five days, with time spent organizing details and making sure everything was ready for the big moment. Preparation took around five days from start to finish. Between gathering the big lights that spelled “PROM,” organizing the details, and making sure everything came together smoothly, the planning process required both time and effort.
For Matthew, this promposal felt especially meaningful because it was his last one as a senior. He wanted to make it special and memorable, knowing it marked the end of a high school tradition. “It was important for me to make it special because it was my last one,” Matthew said.
When asked for advice, Matthew emphasized the importance of planning ahead and staying organized so everything falls into place. Promposals may only last a few minutes, but for students like Matthew, the planning effort, and memories behind them are what make the experience unforgettable.
