The well-known music festival known for its performances, surprise celebrity appearances, fashion risks, and enough online controversy from influencers to fuel social media for weeks just came back on. Coachella pops off once again, bringing drama in its 2026 edition. Held in Indio, this year’s festival marked a major comeback moment for Coachella after concerns in recent years that the event was losing its grip on pop-culture. The 2026 festival provided the internet a blast to the past, starring guests that were most popular in 2016 such as Justin Bieber.
The biggest crowds of the weekend of course, belonged to the headliners Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber, and Karol G who made history as one of the biggest Latina headliners ever. Bieber’s performance became one of the most talked-about sets online due to some controversy. Some were satisfied with the nostalgic feel of his show while others complained that some moments were low-energy and his production style was unconventional. Sabrina Carpenter found herself in the middle of some internet backlash after a viral interaction with fans which sparked accusations of cultural insensitivity.
Beyond the music, Coachella once again outdid themselves as the fashion’s unofficial runway. Celebrity guests and influencers including James Charles and Kylie Jenner filled social pages with lace tops, oversized boots, and rhinestones in celebration of the return of 2016. Some fans were satisfied with the execution of their outfits while others felt as though this year’s looks were overly commercialized and repetitive since the festival was overtaken by influencers. This makes sense however, since this year’s Coachella festival hosted the most influencers to date.
Although the outcome of the performances and outfits were pretty successful from an influencer standpoint, not everything went smoothly. There were high winds that disrupted some points of the festival causing some stages to temporarily shut down. This caused some shows to be canceled Friday night. On top of this, those who were camping at Coachella had a tough time with tents and canopies, many of which started flying away.
However, even with all of this chaos, the influencers and chaos reminds fans why Coachella remains the ultimate cross-over of music, fashion, and internet culture. Coachella 2026 has made it clear that the festival will be returning and running for a very long time. The desert concerts and outdoor runways are not over yet.
