With many new stores opening up in the San Gabriel Valley, it’s no surprise that Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream decided to open up one in Alhambra. Though they already have a location in Pasadena, people were excited about this news. Handel’s is an incredibly popular ice cream chain known for its large portions and extensive flavor selection. They’ve developed a strong reputation since their first opening in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1945.
The grand opening date for the brand new Alhambra location was on April 23, 2026. They’re located on South Fremont Ave next to stores like Johnny Rockets and Wingstop. The announcement of the new Alhambra store quickly gained attention online, especially from people who are located in the SGV and believe Pasadena or Newport Beach is too far.
During their grand opening weekend, Handel’s had a lot of promotion. On the first day of their grand opening, they had their ribbon cutting at 11 a.m.. The first fifty people in line also received a free cone card. On the 25th and 26th, they had face painting and a “Meet Bluey” activity. Four days of their grand opening weekend included a raffle for free ice cream for a year.
Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream is also known for making their ice cream fresh daily in each store. Customers have a wide selection of flavors, including seasonal flavors and specialty items like sundaes, shakes, and waffle cones. This helps them stand out from many traditional ice cream shops and has helped them earn a loyal customer base across the United States.
Beyond serving ice cream, this has also positively impacted the local economy. This new location is bound to be popular during the summer months as lines move fast and are long even now. This adds more selection for dessert choices in the area as summer is quickly approaching.
