Ding Dong! In the last season of the year, more K-dramas are coming up in October. One of the most anticipated releases is Family by Choice, which is a remake of the C-drama called Go Ahead. Directed by Jin Seung-Ho, who was the director of Twenty Five Twenty One, the storyline explores the theme of familial bonds shared by three people who are biologically unrelated.
Kim San-Ha (played by Hwang In-youp), Yoon Joo-Won (played by Jung Chae-Yeon), and Kang Hae-Joon (played by Bae Hyun-Sung) are childhood friends who spent their entire teenage years together. The story talks about the reunion that happened ten years after their separation, which taps into friendships, familial relationships, and romantic relationships. The drama intentionally includes hidden secrets for each character that are gradually revealed episode by episode, appetizing the audience to want to jump from episode to episode.
Another popular upcoming release is Hellbound Season 2, which is based on the Webtoon (Korean digital comic) Hellbound. The drama is directed by Yeon Sang-Ho, who is also the author of the Webtoon. Season 1 ended with Jung Jin-Su the religious leader disappearing, thus coinciding with Park Jung-Ja’s resurrection and Min Hye-Jin’s escape with her child who was sentenced to damnation. The second season connects with the first season by asking the question, “Is it possible to fight against the command of the devils?” The second season bridges tightly with the first season, making it difficult for people who did not watch the first season to pick up freshly on the second one.
The three-year-gap between the first and second seasons also poses a significant challenge for people who watched the first season—the time may have flushed away most of the important details in season 1. The gap was caused by a postponement in filmmaking due to scandals that the actor of the main character, Yoo Ah-In, faced. Regardless of the difficulty in retrieving major concepts in the previous season, the second season continues to revolve around the idea of protecting one’s family and combating the organization who used the name of God to justify their power.
