There are many ways to add some school spirit into the atmosphere while also raising the necessary funds needed for different occasions. Clubs, sports, and other organizations are essential pieces of school life, so much so that the fundraisers they bring allow for students to experience a variety of joy in the rigorous academic environment. This may not seem too important for a school, however, for a student it is.
Everything surrounding a fundraiser is what makes them essential. When schools allow fundraising during school hours, it turns academic environments into fun student initiatives. Everything that goes into making a fundraiser helps students who are looking into the business field: from pitching the idea to officially having it up and running. As a matter of fact, this can be seen as a form of schooling itself as students are taking the initiative, handling communications, and handling money. This enhances engagement and responsibility. Furthermore, this is the hands-on experience many students need as it is integrating practical skills that can benefit the overall educational experience and better prepare students for future challenges.
Moreover, many school clubs rely on fundraising to cover the costs of essential resources and activities. For example, The Matador itself is a bimonthly newspaper; however, in order to make printed copies accessible to students, there are necessary fees. Without a variety of fundraisers, it becomes very difficult for the newspaper to be produced. Additionally, if fundraisers are allowed only outside of school hours, it limits the effectiveness of fundraising. When fundraisers occur immediately after school, in the mornings, and during school hours, students are able to be more involved. By having fundraisers in schools, it is also providing clubs more of an outreach to a wider variety of students.
Lastly, although some may argue how fundraisers can cause distractions in schools, it is very easy to implement regulations which would help maintain organization. For example, fundraisers can take place during lunch, passing periods, or even during ME time. Fundraising, during said times, limits the distractions while also allowing for students to take breaks and enjoy a quick snack. This may not be something everyone agrees with, however it does have its benefits in such environments. Limiting the distractions in classes that schools so fear, while having designated times to “distract” students a while seems best to maintain order. Without some distractions once in a while from constant hard work will take a toll on students as they can eventually feel burnt out. Distractions once in a while are healthy which is why fundraisers during school hours should occur more often.
