The 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC), held from Aug. 19 to Aug. 2, is a presidential nominating convention that is held every four years. The DNC is where Democrats from all 50 states and U.S territories will gather in Chicago to support Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Waltz for the 2024 presidential election.
Former U.S. President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama made an exciting appearance at the 2024 DNC. The two gave a speech in support of Kamala Harris.
Michelle Obama started her speech by speaking in high regard of Harris, recounting her several year friendship and personal experience with Kamala Harris. The former First Lady claimed that Harris is the “most qualified people to ever seek the office of presidency” and one of the hardest working and striving people she knows.
“It couldn’t be more obvious. Of the two major candidates in this race, only Kamala Harris truly understands the unseen labor and unwavering commitment that has always made America great,” she stated. The warm words of Michelle Obama—the former First Lady and Harris’s fellow friend— created an upright reputation for Kamala Harris, drawing more support for the current Vice President in the future presidential election.
In the speech, Michelle Obama made her comments on former President Donald Trump, who is also running for president as a Republican in the upcoming election: she labeled Trump as a person who is ugly, misogynist, and racist, and a “down right, down keeper.”
Michelle Obama ended her speech by persuading the audience at the DNC to “vote in numbers that erase any doubt” and reminded them that “[their] fate is in [their] hands,” highlighting the importance of voting for the right person. She then transitioned her speech to another speaker, the former President and her husband, Barack Obama.
Barack Obama began his speech by expressing his appreciation for Joe Biden’s effort and contribution to the U.S. as the current president and for being a great friend.
Similar to his wife, the former President made remarks about Donald Trump. “Trump sees power as nothing but a means to his end,” Obama compared Trump to a spoiled child who would not stop complaining about his problems, arguing that Trump is a person who uses power for the sake of himself.
Again, Barack Obama held Kamala Harris in high regard by praising her readiness for the job and her helpful personality. He described Harris to be a person who is willing to fight for the benefits and rights of the citizens. Harris also believes in the equity and freedom of the citizens.
The crowd erupted in cheers as Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota was introduced. The former President asserted that Tim Walz is “the kind of person who should be in politics.” a dad. “We should follow the lead of governors like Tim Walz who’ve said if you’ve got the skills and the drive, you shouldn’t need a degree to work for the state government.” Obama ends the speech by urging the audience to stay firm on their convictions and vote for Kamala and Walz.
Many people are fed up with the various problems of the country. In response to those problems, Kamala and Walz plan to find a solution. Kamala and Walz both are firm believers of a county that is free and equal. The pair plan to reduce the cost of healthcare, provide mortgage assistance to first-time home buyers, and establish various other beneficial plans.
