With the 2024 year coming to an end, many popular programs have already been released and received good reviews for their work. Netflix still has a large range of shows that have long awaited for the end of the year to release, and anticipated ones at that.
Arcane, an animated show based on the popular multiplayer online battle arena game League of Legends, is by far one of the most awaited animated shows for Netflix in years with it winning four out of the five Emmy Nominations. The second season is coming November 9, 2024. Its stunning visuals and deliberate plot progression had kept watchers on the end of their couch in late 2021. Although the show has nine episodes in total it has much to provide, such as world building between the two settings of the show being Piltover and the Undercity butting heads over the ruin of the Undercity and luxurious life those in Piltover got to have. The story is centered around the life of two sisters, Vi and Jinx, and how their life led them to different paths and to be enemies on different sides of the same war. Viewers love seeing the complexity of Jinx and how she struggles with her extreme trauma, both sympathizing and troubled over her actions throughout the show. Along with that, watchers are able to see the world and how much it has changed through the eyes of Vi who was isolated for years due to being imprisoned.
Another show that has been in the works is Squid Game season two, coming December 26, 2024. Squid Game is a Korean dystopian survival thriller series with only nine episodes, all of which is led by protagonist Seong Gi-hun who is a semi-active father in severe debt. He was approached by a mysterious man to play a game for cash, which took him down a rabbit hole of unbelievable choices and situations that he is then forced to survive for the prize of 45.6 billion won, which is 38 million dollars in USD. Squid Game captivated the hearts of many as a result of the shocking and brutal deaths contestants were faced with when failing a challenge of silly children games–creating a sense of unease and discomfort. It effectively garnered the attention because although Seong Gi-hun wasn’t the best father he was still a good man who just needed the money to live a better life, thus making the viewers root for him. It isn’t just Gi-hun the show focuses on, there are many fan favorites like Abdul Ali, Kang Sae-byeok, and Ji-yeong that people also root for to win despite it being a death game.
Netflix’s Cobra Kai is an American martial arts comedy-drama television series and also a sequel to the Karate Kid films.The series is told through the eyes of Johnny Lawrence, a character from the previously mentioned movies, and how he reopends the Cobra Kai karate dojo. With six and a half seasons already released, coming November 28 will be the second part to season six which picks up exactly where it left off with tragedy and secrets revealed. Older viewers enjoy Cobra Kai for its new and reimagining of the world they knew when they were little, and younger viewers are captivated by the fresh new story and a familiar younger generation of actors who play in it. Cobra Kai is a series to be enjoyed by all ages alike and certainly a must watch with the family.
Netflix has many other shows other than Arcane and Squid Game to be released such as Zombiverse, Beastars, and much more. Fans are excited and thrilled to see the next project that awaits not just the end of the year but also 2025.
