Welcome back to school, Matadors! On Thursday, August 28, 2025, San Gabriel High School welcomed families and students back to school for its annual Back-to-School Night. The evening gave parents and guardians a chance to explore their students’ classes, meet teachers, and visit the food fair hosted by some of the clubs of SGHS. Outside of the classrooms, the highlight of the evening was the food fair set up by our clubs which transformed the quad into a lively area filled with smells, sweets, and school spirit.
This year’s options at the food fair offered something for everyone. The DATA club kept things simple by selling bags of popcorn as a quick and easy snack that was perfect for students on the go. The Senior Class Council was a popular stop with their selection of pastries from Porto’s bakery. Band and UNICEF kept it sweet with Band selling Krispy Kreme donuts and UNICEF selling the Crumbl Cookies of the week. Over at the journalism table, they brought something new with sweet, chewy mochi donuts. Adding a cultural touch to Back to School Night, the Vietnamese Cultural Club served crispy egg rolls and refreshing Thai tea, giving families a taste of comfort food with a mix of cultures. Color Guard brought a burst of freshness to the day by serving agua frescas that sold out in minutes.
These tables were more than just a chance to grab a snack; the annual Back to School Night food fair highlighted the student clubs that worked hard to raise funds for upcoming events, performances and gear such as uniforms, competition fees, and fun activities. This year also carries special excitement as SGHS celebrates its 70th anniversary, a milestone that brings even more meaning to the traditions, community, and school spirit on nights like Back to School Night. Not only did it provide students a stop to get snacks and treats, but it also brought students together and reminded everyone of the school spirit that defines San Gabriel High School.
