Dominic Fike, a popular American singer-songwriter, rapper and actor, released “Rocket” on Aug. 22, 2025. After leaving fans with an EP in April of 2024, he soon dropped his first mixtape named after his son. He released his all-solo mixtape via Columbia Records. Fike first reached fame through his SoundCloud songs and his single, “3 Nights.” He also became popular through his role as Elliot in HBO’s TV drama series, “Euphoria.”
“Rocket” is a 12-track mixtape that is 26 minutes long. The tracks include: “All Hands On Deck,” “Aftermath,” “Smile,” “Sandman,” “Great Pretender,” “$500 Fine,” “One Glass,” “Quite The Opposite,” “Upset & Aggressive,” “David Lyons,” “Epilogue” and “Still Feel It.” His mixtape has some leaked songs that have been uploaded since 2021. With a surprise appearance of his son, Rocket, at Lollapalooza, Fike premiered his songs “All Hands On Deck,” ”Great Pretender” and “One Glass” in early August.
Fike’s mixtape is a raw and unpolished outlook into his life as a new parent and his self-identity. The Florida-born songwriter explores his new found fatherhood and personal side with appealing guitar rhythms and basslines. This enjoyable mixtape blends the indie and alternative subgenres. In the track, “Sandman,” Fike uses groovy sounds with catchy lyrics that completely contrast the mellow vibes of tracks like “Epilogue.” Even a great track like “Great Pretender,” which seems to be about a past relationship, is filled with memorable melodies.
“Rocket” has peaked at number 33 in New Zealand’s Official Aotearoa Music Charts and at number 87 in Australia’s ARIA Charts. Some fans have enjoyed Fike’s new release calling it chill and simple while others are rather critical, calling it a loose prototype and disliking the short length of the songs. “Rocket” is a short vulnerable display of Fike’s life. If you enjoy listening to indie music, I think his mixtape would be a nice listen for you.
