Crumbl is a company that got popular for its unique, weekly-rotating flavors, pink boxes, and photogenic cookies. So, when the company announced the Dubai Chocolate Brownie, expectations were through the roof. With the announcement of such a cookie, considering the trends circling the internet, consumers were out-of-their-minds excited.
Generally speaking, Dubai chocolate is a decadent, rich chocolate surrounding a pistachio filling with crunchy bits in it, known as kataifi. The sweetness of the chocolate is cut by the saltiness of the pistachio, and the kataifi adds some much-needed crunch to the chocolate. However, the brownie that Crumbl decided to make is so sweet that it throws the balance off of the flavors completely. Each bite is heavy and sugar-filled, totally opposite of what Dubai chocolate is supposed to taste like.
The biggest letdown of this cookie is the brownie part. The very bottom, the base. It’s supposed to be their signature, yet Crumbl messed it up. The texture of the fudge-y, dense brownie overtook the lightness of the pistachio filling. That, and the thick layer of gooey chocolate on the top of the brownie as well. Those two chocolate-y factors overtook the flavor of the pistachio, leaving the brownie to be a big mess of chocolate.
Another thing that adds to the disappointment is the price. Usually, a cookie is anywhere from 4 to 5 dollars. However, this cookie is an additional $2, making your total come up to be around $8 dollars for a brownie. The hype of Dubai chocolate is something that we shouldn’t be falling for anymore. It’s honestly a mediocre flavor that everyone adds to anything in order to overcharge and gain customers.
It’s a marketing tactic for companies to make more money, and this brownie from Crumbl is no different from the rest.
