“The Summer I Turned Pretty” is a top TV show based on the author Jenny Han’s best selling book trilogy. The story follows Isabel Conklin (also known as Belly) as she finds herself in the Fisher’s family beach house, where she’s always grown up. She’s navigating through first loves, heartbreak, and of course, gets herself stuck in the messiest love triangle between two brothers.
The return of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” means that Cousins Beach–which is the place that Belly and the boys have spent all their summers–is back, and so is the debate between team Conrad and team Jeremiah. This divide tears apart communities in social media comment sections, book clubs and even group chats between close friends. Belly Conklin has caught feelings for both Conrad and Jeremiah, who are brothers, and is struggling to choose between them. Conrad is more moody and brooding who wears his heart on his sleeve. He looks like he came straight out of a Lana Del Rey music video. Jeremiah on the other hand, is more of a golden retriever. He is funny, loyal and always has a bright smile on his face. Both brothers are tall and tan beach boys, who have been close to Belly all her life. Though the question remains: Who is a better fit for Belly Conklin?
The first episode of season 3 aired on July 16th. This was when all the drama started as Belly continued her relationship with Jeremiah from season 2. There was a four year time jump from the second season into the third one, which was significant in showing maturity and development between the characters’ relationships.
In the first two episodes of the third season, cracks between Belly and Jeremiah’s relationship starts to show. We learn that Jeremiah may not be who he paints himself to be, and that Belly’s heart may be elsewhere. As the episodes come out weekly and the drama unravels, we start to see what Belly truly wants. As of right now, Episode 7 brings the most drama as it contains a moment where it truly shows the true colors of all the characters. This episode is centered around the bachelor party, which is when all of Belly and her friends have had too much to drink. Real feelings that were suppressed for too long start to show, making it a game changer this season. Nothing goes to plan, and everything takes a complete 180 turn. Whether it is for better or worse, viewers are still wondering and waiting to find out.
As the ending of season three comes near, the tension is growing even more between the two teams, rooting for different brothers. The show has become less about what is best for Belly, and more about what the viewers want for the brothers. But for now, Belly is focused on finding herself in Paris, leaving the debate for which brother she will choose in the air. Will she even choose a brother? Or will she end up by herself? The question remains as the last episode will be out on Sept. 17th.
