Rapper and pop star Montero Lamar Hill (aka Lil Nas X), 26, was recently detained in Los Angeles after an alleged physical confrontation with police. Authorities say he was first hospitalized for an evaluation before being arrested. The rapper now faces four felony charges—three counts of battery with injury to a police officer and one count of resisting arrest.
According to police, during their response to a call about a minimally clothed man, they were charged by the suspect when they approached him. The law enforcement source familiar with the case confirmed the suspect being the rapper, stating that an officer was punched twice in the face by the celebrity. Law enforcement includes that it was unclear if he was under the influence or mental distress at the time.
Hill has pleaded not guilty to all four felony charges. A bail of $75,000 was set by the judge that also requires attendance to four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week despite no confirmation of the pop star being under the influence. If Hill faces conviction, he must face up to multiple years in prison and a $10,000 fine for each charge. The bail was posted, and Hill following his release must attend a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 15, 2025.
Hill’s father, Robert Stafford offered his perspective on the incident. Stafford explains that his son’s alleged aggressive behavior was a reaction to the pressure of his stardom and fame. “I understand how the music business is, it’s like a high. When you get to that level, you want to hit that high again,” Stafford said. Stafford also left a comment on the wellbeing of his son. “He’s doing great mentally. We shed tears, we shed laughter, but he’s in great spirits,” Stafford said. Despite the complications of the incident and the legal battle, Stafford expresses hope for the wellbeing of his son and asks for prayers.
